Pacifica Chamber of Commerce Happenings

Chamber Happenings

By Victor Spano, President, Pacifica Chamber of Commerce

We are pleased to continue the tradition established by our past two CEO’s Courtney Conlon and Vickie Flores to write to Tribune readers and inform the community of the Pacifica Chamber’s activities and community events. Here is our report for May:

We are happy to welcome Anna McDevitt at Blue West Interior Design and Sean Green of Green’s Gardening and Landscaping as our newest members. In the coming months, the Pacifica Chamber will be having a membership drive to increase our membership among newly opened businesses in Pacifica as well as businesses who are former members. We are going to make a outreach to “Home Based Businesses”. We can provide great advocacy for such businesses, and mixers, website, newsletters and other activities can give such businesses a boost.

One of our members, Susan Yem, Director of Advancement from Alma Height School recently visited our office and informed us about the going on facilities of the school that we did not know about: their Stetson Hall can accommodate parties of 200 and their gym can accommodate 400. We are looking forward to visiting these facilities.

Recent event: Boys and Girls Club Mural. Kudos to former CEO Vickie Flores for spearheading the painting of a new “oceanic themed” mural at the Pacifica Boys and Girls Club. She arranged for donated labor and materials to help the project happen. The local artist who did the mural was Jeffrey Wong. The mural features breaching whales along the Pacifica coastline. We had a grand opening “ribbon cutting” of the mural attended by Mayor Mike O’Neill and Councilmember Sue Vaterlaus. Delicious cupcakes were specially made for the occasion.

Directory Progress. Our other retired CEO, Courtney Conlon has been doing a bang up job orchestrating our Directory Sales effort. It is apparent to all that Courtney loves Paciifca and our Pacifica Chamber members. Thank you Courtney and our entire directory sales staff! And thanks to our members who have purchased ads. If you have not ordered up your ad, there is still time.

Upcoming events. Florey’s 40th Anniversary June 7th. It’s hard to believe, but Florey’s Bookstore on Palmetto is having it’s 40th this year. We will have a Anniversary Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on June 7th at 3pm.

The Chamber’s BID report to the City Council. June 12th. Our New CEO Jamie Monozon will be presenting this year’s Business Improvement District Annual Report, which will tell of the tourism promoting activities of the Business Improvement District. The report contains all of the income and expenditures for the previous year, and projections for the coming year. In the last year, the Chamber, as agent for the Business Improvement District has boosted Pacifica with effective public relations activities including many placements by travel writers and others highlighting our spectacular coastal environment. This benefits Pacifica businesses business through increased business to our hotels, restaurants and shops, which translates to income for City of Pacifica to provide local services.

The Chamber of Commerce will be represented among the local community organizations at this year’s Kops and Kids event at Sea Bowl on June 19th between 10am and 3pm. Kops and Kids is a fun educational family event that features exhibits and information from several local police departments. Last year, a helicopter landed in the Sea Bowl Parking Lot. The Chamber will be sponsoring a Dunk Tank, several police officers and chamber members may play “Dunkees”.

And finally, Taste of Pacifica is happening June 24th , Noon to 3pm. This year’s Taste of Pacifica moves to the Pacifica Moose Lodge. We will have nearly 25 restaurants participating. For the price of a ticket, you can sample the many and varied flavors of Pacifica Restaurants. Nick’s, Moonraker, Mazzetti’s, A Grape in the Fog, Boat Dock Bakery, Beach Monkey Café, Breakers, Devil Slide Taproom, French Patisserie, Puerto 27, Luigi’s, Kenny’s Café, Gorilla BBQ, Grocery Outlet, Oceana Market, P-Town Café, Pacifica Historical Society (Cheese), Pacifica Thai Restaurant, Rock n Robs, Linda Mar Safeway, Salada Beach Café, Sun Valley Market , Tam’s and maybe a few others.
